I have a huge extended family, and today is one of those days where 20 people ( and 20 is not the max, it can go up to 24 ) come together under 1 roof for good food and good company.
Among the 20 people, we have an entrepreneur, media people, banker, lawyer-to-be, corporate trainer, FMCG Retail, Oil and Gas, F&B Industry and one too many engineers. What does it take to feed these 20 people ?
Dinner for 20 people = 2 types of soups, 2 types of fish dishes, 10 chilli crabs, 4 types of vegetable dishes, a plate full of prawns, a huge pot of chicken curry - too many potatoes and carrots to peel and a loaf of bread for the curry and the crab. A few bottles of sparkling grape juice and wine. And 2 CAKES !
20 people is also means topics at the dinner range from 'Where to shop in Shanghai ?' 'Is 7 days enough for Korea ?' ' How did you cook the fish ?' ' What to give as Christmas presents..'' Exercising Right' Who has lost weight and who has gain weight.' Blah Blah Blah.
20 people is enough to start a huge discussion on which TV programme we should watch. Chinese, Korean, National Geographic, MTV, Star Movies and the discussion goes on on which channel we should be watching.
20 people means 5 motor vehicles to move people around. 20 people also mean 3 generations, 5 young children fighting over computer games, guys and their techie talk, women and their cooking in the kitchen and buying the lottery, and 4 twenty-something to early thirty-something girls with their topics.
20 people makes eating more fun with harmless and goodnatured compeition for the best piece of meat, 20 people makes watching soap dramas hilarious because you get different sentiments from different people. 20 people makes life a little more hectic, 20 means a bigger mess at the end of the day BUT 20 people is is a joy to have under one roof, 20 people means you will never get bored in an household like that. And 20 people means you have 19 other people to fall back on.
Comparing to spending Christmas alone while I was in Canada.
And I am happy that I am counted in today's 20 and December's 24 people when everyone gets back to Singapore for Christmas. Stay Tuned once again for the massive amount of shopping, food and wrapping paper !
