Two AIESEC Questions and a Job !

I sat through an interview last week and the lady that was interviewing me asked me
What is AIESEC ? Its an easy question but for that one second, I paused and all the images of conferences, dances, cheers, drunking flashed through my mind. And while I did that, I actually laughed. Yes, I laughed before I answered the question.

I went on to explain that we are an international student organization that is present in over .....(blah blah blah)..... The lady went on to explain that she actually knew about it and later went on to explain that she was an AIESEC member.
(And there I was, sitting in complete comfort know that I am talking to an alumni..)

And later, she asked : So what is it that made you stay involved for so long ? And the question stunned me. I replied with a big smile and said, I guess its the passion, the opportunities that was presented to me, the people I meet and how I saw lifes changed. Then she smiled.

With that question answered, she told me the ONE quality that she was looking in her candidates, a lively spirit, a sense of belonging and a passion for change. And I guess my involvement with AIESEC was enough for her and the fact that I am still involved with AIESEC had given her enough assurance.

Guess what ? I start work on Monday !

The Door B*tch

door-anatomy1[1]

Imran called me the door b*tch, what does the door b*tch do ? She sits at the door at an AIESEC event, makes sure that everyone who walks in for the event pays the right amount ! Ha Ha Ha.

With the cost of running the event at $1000 dollars and AIESEC Victoria's trainee in charge, ( and he left a deposit ! ) I had to make sure that the event doesnt run into a deficit and make sure that everyone paid !

So......... I become the door b*tch ! and of course ! a good one too !

An Eventful Tuesday

My school ( CHIJ ) has a chapel and I didn't even know it ! It is a beautiful chapel with stain glass and a high ceiling. Expensive to built but worth it. Thanks Miss Yip for walking me down the steps to see the chapel. I also had the chance to sit in on a geography lesson Miss Yip was conducting for her class. How I miss sitting in a classroom, reading from the board, learning from the board and reflecting on my old classrooms, my extremely loud graduating class, and how I use to enjoy each and every geography lesson.

Lucky me, I also managed to sit in on Mrs Low's Choir Auditions ! And she is still as intimidating as she use to be, our dear choir mistress ! Boosting our long history of gold medals and awards, distinctions at every single choral performance and grading. One thing I know for sure, I dont think I would have made it if I went for auditions yesterday !

I love my teachers ! Mrs Chiam taught me Chinese for 4 consecutive years, Miss Yip taught me Geography for 3 consecutive years, Mrs Tan played an important role in putting me in the right class with a subject combination that I enjoy, Miss J Teo shared my passion for Mac ! Miss Teo PS made sure I had a strong foundation Math before sending me to upper secondary with Mrs Vannan. and Mrs Low, with her passion for the school choir has inspired a love for fine arts in me. I love my school and my teachers, I realise that I will never be able to repay the love they showered on me.

I know one thing that I can always count on my teachers is to give me sound advice and also be there for me if I need to clear my head and even fustrations. As usual, I walked out of IJ with a good head on my shoulders and ready to take on the world again.

Winnie, Kalai, Kelly and I met up for dinner and coffee at Plaza Singapura. It was good to finally catch up with gossips, to be in the know of who is dating whom ? who wants to date whom, to know the places that people have gone, good diners and how old we feel to be in a crowd of 17+ 18+ year olds.

-----------

Biggest Highlight of the day; Carrefour was having a book sale ! At $3 a book ! I bought 18 books and Kalai bought 15 ! Yeah Yeah Yeah ! ( Yes, Carrefour is selling books.. )

On a different topic,
In Victoria, we always say that someone is running on Latin Time when he/she is late. It appears that I found another country who is also running slightly behind time - According to Jan, its Austria Time !

And because I am now running on Austrian Time, my dinner is postpone again to next week ! In the words of Jan : ALAMAK ! With any luck, his Singlish will be better than mine within weeks !

-----------

On another different topic,
The HAZE is back in Singapore ! With all the forest clearing in Indonesia with the slash and burn method, unfortunate wind directions has brought the haze to us, the air qualities hovers between 100 and 130. It is NOT that bad, I guess some countries have it worse, with or without wind direction change, with or without deforestation ! Just like some of the Indian trainees said, its always like that in India !

Friday and Saturday !

I know a certain someone, he has a special talent for making people laugh and blush, he is smart and he holds his point of view in an argument well. Widely travelled and he explores the most remote parts of the world where most man do not want go.
For this, I am deeply impressed and I look forward to our next conversation !

PS : If you are reading this, SNOWBOARDING IS STILL MUCH BETTER THAN SKIING !

AIESEC Singapore hosted our very first AIESEC Days - Celebrating Deepavali with a BANG. One where 119 Alumnis, Members, Trainees and Externals turn up for Indian dances ( AIESEC Dances too ) Indian Food, Indian Dress Up and Stories about Traineeships in India.

BIG CONGRATS goes out to Imran and David ( AIESEC Victoria's Trainee ). A very well done job, a very successful event, in true AIESEC Spirit, people like you guys change the world !

I think better there..

With my new found free time, I went back to school to see what I can do to help out the teachers, get some peace, some good advice and also a place where I think better. Things doesnt always work out in life but things have a funny way of becoming easier or less complex when you are in the right place and right state of mind.

For me, its simple, I head back to my high school. My Alma Mata.

I think better there and each time I walk through the gates I feel a sense of overwhelming relief and comfort. School is almost like my shelter from harsh winds and rains.

-----------------------------------------------------------

I had the chance to go visit Noah, Astrid's baby. He must be the most adorable baby in the world. He is such a strong boy, at one month, he is able to support his head and look around the place. He smiles when he is carried and he clever. He even made me laugh.

God Bless his little heart !

Honestly, how can you not fall in love ?

To motivate myself, I went car shopping on the weekend with Dave C. It was good catching up with Dave, I must have not seen him for 6 months ! It feels so good to talk to a friend who is motivated, driven and ambitious, its contagious !

So... we walked into many car dealers and we asked many questions. Eventually, we narrowed our search to a few cars and we went for test drives.

How can anyone not fall in love with a car like this ?

Here's a yellow one for the ladies !

Can't describe

Cant describe what I am feeling

busy, lost, confused, confident, zealous, happy and tired.
Is there a word for all of the above combined ?
