All in two days..

28th April - Friday

Last day of the week, time to get accounts closed, reports due and getting ready for a long weekend !
Monday is a Public Holiday !
Also the day I graduated from my course and I proudly declare that I know NLP !
I have to say a big THANK YOU to ALEX for being so sweet to drive me to the airport to pick David up.

THANK YOU ALEX !
I really appreciate your drive coz I had such a big headache !

David arrived on Singapore Airlines 017 from Vancouver at Midnight, while Sherina and I stand afriad to know is happening at customs and why it is taking so long to get out from customs. Our fears were short-lived, soon enough, we saw David, bouncing, jumping and skipping a little to Belt 32 to collect his baggage.

( we found out today that he was on the same plane as another Trainee and they sat 3 rows apart ! )
After we ( Sherina and I ) found David, we headed off to my place. We also brought David to his first PRATA ( Indian Roti ) and his first cup of MILO Dinosaur ! ( Asian Chocolately Drink with a MOUNTAIN of chocolate power floating on the top of the drink ! )

29th April

The day started treating David to Tim Sum ( LOADS ) at Crystal Jade ( Hong Kong Food ), a walk in the famous Merlion part in town, Esplanade and CHOCOALTE FOUNDU ! Shortly after, we were whisked away to dinner with my parents, we headed to a newly opened restaurant for Lobster and Black Pepper Crab.. YUMMY...crazy us even went to meet the LCPe of NUS for a drink at Timbre.

Now we are back at home, tired and feeling sooooooo full...

Next stop for David, Chinatown and Little India.
Looking for pictures and David's account of his first day ? Read his blog! Its on the Right Hand Side, Look for David. A. L. !

Another Quiz

I'm completely down-to-earth!

Find your soul type
at kelly.moranweb.com.

You are the most in touch with knowledge. It's the tree of life from which you tap the sap. You know what you want and you know how to reasonably get it.

Virtues: You respect people with plans. When someone has their head on their shoulders, you know that they can see straightforward and keep their eyes on the mark. When it comes to looking at the future, you take a logical approach: what's within your ability? A fortunate attribute that you have is the ability to set a goal for yourself, higher than maybe you feel possible, but still keep yourself within reasonable bounds. You take the time to appreciate those surrounding you and they do appreciate you in return. Decision-making comes naturally to you when you take the time to consider each option. People only come to talk to you when they are looking for a logical, reasonable solution.

Aspirations: You have an idea of what you can do with your life, but you push it up a notch. You need a profession that you can enjoy, so work towards it. You want to live near your friends and family while being as far away as possible. You also want to settle down while working in excitement and variation.

Quirks: You don't appreciate drama queens and they don't appreciate you. When they need help, they won't seek you out because of your ability to see through their overly dramatic predicaments. You have leeway for humor, and sometimes love to participate in it, but when it becomes irrational behavior, others can count you out. Loud noises are bothersome, except when they come from you or your friends.

Factors: Reach for the sky! Don't decide to do something because you're merely good at it, but choose something you might like to do, despite whether you're sure you can master it or not. Don't only save room for a few empathetic friends, but open up to everyone.

Emotional Rollercoaster

roller_coaster[1]

Someone brought me on a rollercoaster ride today. I never left the office but the feeling was more intense than a real rollercoaster ride. It was an emotional rollercoaster ride... not just one ride. maybe its 10 rides in a row..

first-immigration would not grant the visa, my heart sank 10 storey down.
second-internal problems at the office

crazi

I swear I went through every single emotion as shown on the chart and another time...

I guess now I know things will work out and if I pray hard enough. God will grant me the strength and serenity to get all things done and right. Sure, things might be different but largely remains the same.

I freaked out and I cried in the office. I felt so bad that I actually sat on the carpet of the office, not able to move.

THANK YOU

Craig managed to crack jokes and cheer me up over MSN.

Today.. I learnt another AIESEC lesson...

why is it that no matter what happens, i can always count on AIESECers to cheer me up. I can always count on AIESEC to make things work again and I can trust that no matter how badly screwed up life becomes, AIESEC might be able to rectify it !

With company retreat days like these, who doesnt love her company ? I spent a whole monday afternoon playing paintball ( more like PAINball ) with the people I work with. We rolled in the mud, ran and played war in the rain, got bruises and shot a million time but all in the name of fun !

Rain and ABCs

I sat down in the rain for a bit today..
I always liked sitting in the rain, enjoying the gentle drops of water on my head and my shoulders.

( well, I know I really should because I am already sick this morning )

I listened to the few cars that drove by on the streets, the sound of splattering mud on the group and how the grass is greener after the rain.

I thought about the UVic Library and how I sat in the rain right outside the library about a year ago, just thinking, thinking about my career path after my exams. And I thought about David's Blog, and how David is starting his career.

Its really really cool to sit in the rain and just listen, just make sure you dry off proper and not fall sick.

Then, I thought about AIESEC Victoria, and how much they really made my day. I thought about how much happier I woke up this morning and how proud I am of them. I thought about the past LC Presidents and how each of them have really given their heart and soul to AIESEC. As I ran through the names, I realised a pattern.

2001, Andrew
2002, Craig
2003, Celine
2004, Chris
2005, Dave
2006, Emil

LCPs of AIESEC Victoria has been good to follow alphabetical order ! Ha Ha !
Is there a VP who is thinking of running for LCP next year and your name should start with a E or F or G ?

Just a pattern, just a thought...

Andrew or Chris : you really should leave your comments on the LC Blog. The past LCPs have already left our say ...

This is a dream of all retired LCPs of AIESEC Victoria.

Andrew, Craig, Chris, Dave > This is our dream coming true this year...

A dream like this took AIESEC Victoria 5 years. From an LC on the verge of being shut down at NC2001 to an LC ranked 2nd in Q1 2006. AIESEC Victoria has come a long way.

This is my COOL, AWESOME, FANTASTIC, WONDERFUL, CRAZY LC. Read about us at http://aiesecvictoria.nomadlife.org. This is something very close to my heart, this made me smile !

South East Asia Dentistry

Question : What do you get when you sit in a cold cold air-con room at 12 midnight, talking to two of your close friends on MSN and Google Talk ?

Answer : A very good laugh !

For those of you out there who knows both Craig and Sai, ( two people I really admire and care about ) and you know about living standards in Asia, here’s why the two of them made me laugh so much…

Sai on Google Talk and Craig on MSN. ( Neither one is both on Google Talk and MSN at the same time, only me )

In the MSN window, Celine is talking to Craig

Celine : dude. its cool that you are in Japan now, I see you online more often.
Craig : i'm just going to sleep thou what's your excuse?V
Celine: have not packed for thailand tomorrow morning, how is your dentistry research coming along ?
Craig :well according to mizue it's expensive here in japan and i don't have insurance

In another window, concurrently, Celine is talking to Sai

Celine : Sai...Craigy has teeth problems.
Sai: yes? huh?
Celine: he is thinking of flying over to BKK to get his teeth problems fixed. is it expensive there ?
Sai: No, lots of farang flies to thailand to get it done
Celine : hee hee
Sai: is it that cheap to fly to thailand from japan? Or it's just his excuse to go visit my beautiful country ?
Celine : I told him to come to my country.

Back in Craig’s window,

Celine : sai says : a lot of farangs ( foreigners ) fly to BKK to get their teeth fixed !
Craig : so i read, but i just need cavity filings
Celine : sai says that it cost about $1000 baht to fill 1 tooth, yap, so its not cheap
Celine : Sai said that it will not be REALLY cheap but ti's definitely a good excuse to get there =p
Craig: what?!, you're crazy
Celine : hahahahahahaha
Craig : i think you both need a good rest
Celine : Sai said to go Loas and find an english speaking dentist, that's a quest.. just the way craig likes it, that way its cheaper.
Celine : i really dont recommend you going to Laos to fix your teeth
Craig: it can't be that much to get a filling i thought it was super quick to do something like that? it's just drill a hole and pour some metal in, i've never had one before though
Celine : hahahahahahhahaa
Craig: you two are freaking me out !
Craig: i can't afford no 1000 baht!!
Celine : Sai said : just break some teeth on the sushi signs and claim from ur insurance!
then.. go to Laos......wait.. i highly recommend Cambodia.. u can stop by Ankor Wat on the way to the dentist

Craig : yep i can get one tooth fixed in each country in SE asia, my right front incisor in Thailand, then back molar in laos, singapore can fix the front choppers,
Sai to Craig : dude.. have u been eating too many of those Japanese dorayaki? or whatever it's called.. the bread thing with read beans inside.. Doraemon's favorite food. This is the pain you get from living in expensive Japan. ok.. new plan ..why dont' Craig come to istanbul for a new set of Arabian teeth and Celine can sponsor the flight

( AND I GOT DRAGGED INTO FIXING Craig’s Teeth ! )

While I just laughed away, cutting and pasting in both Craig’s and Sai’s window !

Craig: where is sai anyways? and how is she talking to me through celine!
Celine : sai is in turkey on her TN
Craig:: they love gold teeth in the middle east
( Celine thinks : where did that come from ? imagine craig with gold teeth ! YUCKS ! )
Celine : [ still laughing ]
Craig : i'm just going to sleep now, good night lovely ladies, thx for the entertainment !

This is clips and parts of the conversation, I am sorry now that whomever reads my blog knows about Craig’s dentist problem and Sai’s remarkable knowledge about dentistry in S.E.Asia. I advise Craig to get his teething problems ( smiles ) fixed in Singapore and wonders how many teeth does Craig need to fix !

A movie, updated links and a Happy 24

prideandprejudice_l200509281739[1]

I just finished watching Pride and Prejudice directed by Joe Wright. Nice Nice Nice...

The craziest thing about the movie is not the plot, not the fact that is based on a famouse Jane Austen novel and not who is acting in it ( yucks to Keira Knightley, but Matthew Macfadyen looks good in there )but the things I learnt from that movie.

The quote from the movie

"Sometimes the last person on earth you want to be with is the person you can't be without."

A quick search on the internet showed that Colin Firth acted in another version of pride and prejudice....hmmm.. maybe i should go take a look on that one.

arrow-right[1]

I have also updated my links ! added new links to friend's blogs, take a look at the right hand column and see if you there is anyone you and i know ! ( Also let me know if the links are broken / wrong, or if you have a link for me to add in ! )

Updating my links made me realise where my friend are now, most of us has 'got out' of the 'Canadian Section' and made our way to other parts of the world. Some of us ' got out of 'Singapore' to elsewhere.. hee hee.. ( beware, I might just go for a visit )

On a lighter note, I am turning 24 on Easter Sunday ! Yeah Yeah Yeah !

Good Old' Victoria

Today, I walked another step away from my good old town Victoria. It has been 10 months since I am back in Singapore but i still miss Victoria very much. I took out all my posters, brochures, and pictures of Victoria and stuck up in 2 extremely huge photo frames.. Cards from blockbuster, thrifty, shoppers, uvic, bus passes, air tickets, bus tickets, cinema tickets blah blah blah..... and these thoughts ran through my head and most of all, my heart.

victoria_inner_harbour[1]

I still remember which buses goes where and which part of town smells dutch bakery, noodles( PHO ! ) and the meeting point downtown in front of chapters, the smell of books mixed with coffee on the 2nd floor. The alleys where wind will blow the strongest, the alleys where the wind will never catch you. The streets we walked after 'Red Jacket' for 99cents pizza. Where I will always walk past ROOTS and GAP, hoping to catch the sales, seeing the new designs and Chinatown where I go for comfort foods. Oak Bay Rec and San Juan Rec where Sai and I will spend HOURS swimming and just talking.

I remember the UVic ring, the blue couches I use to sit on to study all night long in the ELW. I still remember the stairs leading to the AIESEC Office when it was still in the SUB, the way Craig will pop his head in in between lessons, the maze at Corrnett buidling, the pyramid where we sat to take orientation photos. The 'snake story' at Biology Building. The Library with a thousand and one books and the hidden nooks and corners. The Clearihue building infested with students in the computer labs. The David Strong Building where most of the AIESEC activities were held. The MP room with so many little booths during Career Fair, the bookstore I cant get enough of. The big TV screen where we watch Hockey together.

I can still see the shade of red gaets at Firehall No. 1 down on Yates, the yellow paint on my 'firetruck' parked next to crystal pool. The 'hollow' stairsways up the side of the firehall to meetings rooms. The after-meetings at Christies Pub, the hockey matches, the crazy things we talk about and they crazy times we laughed till our sides ached.

victoria[1]

I remember staying in Gordan Head, Fernwood, Hillside, Royal Oak, Oak Bay.. hahahahaha. this goes to show how many times I've moved.

oh.. how much i miss home. Wait for me Victoria, I will be back soon !

It has happened already.... ( a rant and rave )

I woke up this morning feeling pretty ok. The first thing I would do is to turn on my computer and read my emails before I get anything else done.

I turned it on. Left for the bathroom, and came back to find an old friend from AIESEC Victoria replying to an email i sent it a long long long long long time ago.
The good thing is, he replied. The bad thing is, I dont know how long will he take to reply 'my reply'

Afterwhich, I decided to go blog surfing and found a friend's site, from there, I found another site, and another from there. It was all good until I scrolled down to read the history and saw some pictures that and realised that it has happened already. I am always worried about how me moving away to another country will affect my friendship with some people and how I would lose contact with some of my friends.

I love my friends and becasue I have different cliques of friends, I hang out with them seperatedly, this bunch of guys I hung out with since I was about 14. And we have always been good friends, close and should time permit, we will have suppers together. Recently, I have been caught up with work. Each of them have also been caught up with their gf and another with God knows what! Two left the country.
I haven't seen them in a while; let alone say know what is going on in their lives.

( ok, the ranting starts here )
so.. for friends that dont know what happened in each other's lives, they are not called friends ya ? and friends who dont bother to call each other out for suppers anymore, or are so busy with god knows what that he has no time for his old friends, ( maybe new friends are cooler ), they shouldn't be calling each other 'friends' too ! am i right ? Or am i right to say that when there are no exciting stories in life, we dont really call our friends, coz there are no gossips ? OOO... maybe the fact that the whole group is not in town, ahh.. that is a good reason not to meet up ? or maybe the 'FRIENDS' bullshit comes into play here... that is .
- as our friend, you should understand that... blah blah blah...
- you know we still care, we just dont say it. blah blah blah...
- we are all busy with our own stuff and life. blah blah blah...
- this one takes it as winner : we thought you will understand since you are always the caring one ... ( ah... this one is the craziest, playing verbal akido ! )

I guess I am not feeling particularly upset ( but it doesn't feel good ) that the group is now more split up than it use to be, ( maybe its between me and the rest ! ) maybe i'm too caught up in work, maybe I have no new exciting gossips in my life thus losing my friends of more than 10 years ! ) I dunno.. knowing that they met up and I was not around, just makes it look like I am out of the loop, I hate this feeling coz I really do care about them.

Good thing for me, I have other friends that care no matter where they are, the worst part is : they are at least 8 hours away by flight and they still care, call regularly )

So I guess, it has happened already. I am not angry, just disappointed.
( so what did i tell you about having new friends in the group ? Once again, I was right but i respect your choices, now respect mine )

Beauty and the Geek

There is a little geek and a little beauty is all of us. I just watched one of my favourite reality shows

here's what it is about ! more ? google it !

--------------------------

Once upon a time, there were 7 attractive women who got by on their appearances, and 7 intelligent men with limited social skills, who lived in a house together, learning from each others' weaknesses and strengths. By the end of their six-episode journey, these diverse men and women received lessons in confidence, equality, and dignity. No longer were they just the Beauty and the Geek.

Beauty and the Geek is Ashton Kutcher's social experiment, which tested if seven beautiful women could work with seven intelligent men to become a whole lot more. At the end of its first season, which filmed in December in California, and premiered in June of 2005, the men and women involved came out better people - more confident, and more accepting.

The second season, with eight new men, eight new women, and eight new episodes, debuts on January 12th, 2006, in a new timeslot. Can the pairs overcome their differences to become more than just the Beauty and the Geek?
--------------------------

And while i was at it.. i did this !

And I am an EXTREME GEEK ! I LOVE IT !

My Inner Power is actually EMPATHY !
( quiz answers were too long, so here are some of the highlights ! )

Empathy- Your inner power is Empathy! This means that you have a talent for identifying others emotions, often by simply glancing at them.

You're the often silent, goody two shoes, and few get passed the walls youve built up to stop yourself being hurt, as you no doubt have been in the past. Not everyone understands you, in fact some think that youre a snob or worse because you rarely participate in group activities.

You are possibly wise beyond your years, serious, and not at all interested in the petty popularity game that your peers play.

Boy/Girl who will sweep you off your feet: A sweet, shy and romantic man/woman. The kind of guy/woman you know will never, ever hurt you, and will love you for ever. The kind of person who believes in true love, and soul mates.

Your power: Healing. Emotionally, physically, or spiritually, you heal people with your words, your actions and presence. Youre the one that the little children are always drawn to, because they know youll never let anything hurt them.

Your element: Clairvoyance (The power to see objects or events that cannot be perceived by the normal five senses.)

A quote that applies to you: "True beauty shines from the soul and warms the world with its kindness, compassion , and integrity."

So much for GEEKY-NESS and Beauty ! Now you know me better ya ?

I am SOOOOO excited !

I bought myself a birthday present today ! hahahaha

Its an alarm clock ! The best part of it is that I dont have to wake up to some crazy beep beep sound, or some crazy 'zzzzzzzzzzeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhh'. I can wake up to my favourite tune ! My CDs !

OK... some of you guys know that I have huge problems getting up in the mornings. I have to drag myself out of bed to work each day. This is a crazy idea but if i put inspirational songs maybe it will help me get up of bed ! hee hee

( ok, i have to admit that most of you think that I am pretty disciplined, and getting up in the morning should not be a problem. Truth is.... I am pretty discipline when it comes to work but when it comes to getting up in the morning, I am really really bad.... )

So... say goodbye to setting my alarm 2 HOURS before I get, say goodbye to 2 hours of SNOOZING ! hahahaha... and here's a picture of my new toy, I am excited !

D E N I A L

Denial is a psychological defense mechanism in which a person faced with a fact that is uncomfortable or painful to accept rejects it instead, insisting that it is not true despite what may be overwhelming evidence.

I use to think that denial is a reflection of immature minds, because it unable to decipher between reality and fantasy, also denial represents a person's inability to cope with truth. No doubt, sometimes the truth is harsh and hard to swallow.

I came to learn recently exactly, why and how people sometimes choose to live in denial.

Sometimes it helps people cope better, not that they are not aware of reality but the shock is sometimes too much to take, so they chose to take one step at time and bit by bit.

Sometimes it helps the people around them cope easier because when someone denies they are feeling bad, the people around them are less worried.

Sometimes denial is the easiest way to cope with an issue. ' Oh, I failed my exams' ' Its ok,the paper was hard, its not that I did not study hard enough'

Sometimes denial is just not as bad as what people think .

BUT is it ?

What happens when you put 8 hard-core singers together in a KTV room ?

- you sing from 9pm to 4am and you still have not finished all your songs ( 7 hours , considering each songs takes about 3 minutes, that is 140 songs !)

- you end up singing standing on the comfy couches and playing air guitar

- you feel so hungry and have to smuggle MacDonalds into the KTV using a 'travel' bag and coats. ( mission impossible songs playing )

- you feel so comfortable that singing " How much is that doggie in the window" is not an embarassing song

- Songs like ' Tuo Diao' (take off your clothes ) and 'Shaggy's - It wasn't me' will get people going crazy.

- You find the youngest member most knowledegable about old songs like ' Knock Three Times ' and ' Please Mister Postman'

- You willingly, opening and daringly proclaim to 'switch and dump partners' coz your partner is not ' up to standards' !

- you got to give out Awards like : ' Got most dumped ' and ' The FIRECE singer'

- You dont know the other poeple in the room but you had fun anyways

- You go home at 4am still wided eyed and not so sleepy..

- You wonder who and when will be at the next crazy night out !

- You shamelessly danced around on the sofa, cos everyone in the room were doing so anyway! <- contributed by Janine >
