After a while, 30 minutes is the norm and 45 minutes becomes acceptable ! And all that talk about 'punctuality is a virtue' is now out of the window. I have known this group of friends for 3 – 10 years now.
Given that we meet about twice a month, and each time I spend 30 minutes waiting for them,
2160 minutes is 36 hours which is 1.5 days !
and this is calculation without exaggeration,
If I were to make someone wait for me for 1.5 day. I would be surprise to still see the person there, in fact, I would be surprise to still see the person after 2 hours !
I would wait because there was a traffic jam, or it started to rain and you could not get the cab.
But I would not wait when you set the time to meet at 7.15pm and you are STILL at home at 7.15pm because you want to doll-up, or you arrive at 7.15pm but everyone is late so you decide to be later by going shopping and arrive at 7.45pm, or you set the time to meet at 5.30 but you think everyone is going to be late, so 'its ok' if I am late, worst still, its fine to be late because we made reservations and Celine is going to be on time to make sure we keep the reservations ya ?
So my dear friends, I am not being anal and I am not being a tight-ass, I just wish you take into consideration that I do not intend to spend a good part of my life just waiting for you, I do not want to be the b*tch that has to bring the matter up. Be considerate that I value my time and I would wait 5 or 10 minutes.
And don't you dare tell me "When you stop giving a crap about all that, you start having fun" because how fun it it to have to wait around for 45 minutes ! ( and people call me a nerd because I carry a book around to the pubs, and no.. i am not sorry for carrying that small little purse that hardly contains anything intellectual) and I remember how you guys got angry when a certain someone else was late. And to that someone who made a joke about meeting up less, its not even remotely funny. [ And I am still waiting for that apology. ] Side note : none of you ever said sorry for being late !
Maybe Glenn was right, maybe I should turn up late on your wedding day and say : Opps ! I didn't think you are going to start on time !
On that note, I am going to stop talking about late-ness but the next time I have to wait 30 minutes again, do not expect me to smile and say hello nicely.
