CISM Part II
CISM was great. I have wonderful course mates, and wonderful instructors. I learnt a great deal from Tim and Oscar. I heard so many wonderful and inspiring stories from the firemen. I learnt some firemen jargon, some new terms.
Mike : What is lower than LOW-TECH ?
Answer : NO-TECH !
I spend a few minutes watching a few really experienced firemen play musical chairs ! HA HA HA HA HA
Some thing to think about :
Where does religion and values stand when it comes to crisis intervention ?
50 years ago, when technology was not as advanced, people go to war and they take 20 days to go home on ships. 20 days to a month on the ship was a good length of time when they sit down with their peers, they talk about their feelings, talk about how they feel, time to collect themselves and get over some of the gruesome images of war. Advancement in technology and flight, today allows a soldier to be home 10-12 hours. 10-12 is good for them to take a nap, a good rest and bring their mind back away from raging war. BUT not enough for them to process their thoughts, share their feelings. Sometime, people just need to shake off ‘bad’ images and also talk about their feelings. Not having the talk can lead to really bad stress build-up and one can go crazy ! We all need a sounding board ! We need to listen to a friend and listen to ourselves. We need to vent ! This is just one reason why CISM is good.
